*BLOG TOUR* FIVE WAYS TO FALL by K.A. Tucker - Excerpt + Review + Giveaway!

Welcome to the blog tour for K.A. Tucker and Five Ways to Fall!! One of my absolute favorite books this year is now available and I have my review PLUS AN EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT!!

But first, let me tell you about the book:

Five Ways to Fall by K.A. Tucker
Genre: New Adult Contemporary
Publication Date: June 24th, 2014

Sometimes you can’t change—and sometimes you just don’t want to. Discover Ben’s side of the story in this fourth novel by the beloved, top-selling indie author of Ten Tiny Breaths, One Tiny Lie, and Four Seconds to Lose.

Purple-haired, sharp-tongued Reese MacKay knows all about making the wrong choice; she’s made plenty of them in her twenty-odd-years. So when her impulsive, short-lived marriage ends in heartbreak, she decides it’s time for a change. She moves to Miami with the intention of hitting reset on her irresponsible life, and she does quite well…aside from an epically humiliating one-night stand in Cancun with a hot blond bouncer named Ben. Thank God she can get on a plane and leave that mistake behind her.

Football scholarship and frat parties with hot chicks? Part of charmer Ben Morris’s plan. Blown knee that kills any hope of a professional football career? So not part of the plan. Luckily Ben has brains to go with his knockout looks and magnetism. After three long years of balancing law school with his job as a bouncer at Penny’s Palace, he’s ready to lead a more mature life—until his first day of work, when he finds himself in the office of that crazy, hot chick he met in Cancun. The one he hasn’t stopped thinking about.

If Ben truly were a smart guy, he’d stay clear of Reese. She’s the boss’s stepdaughter and it’s been made very clear that office romances are grounds for dismissal. Plus, rumor has it she’s trouble. The only problem is, he likes trouble, especially when it’s so good-looking…

Ben

“Nothing happened.”

“That’s not what Kent said.”

“Well, Kent wasn’t there, so how the hell would he know?” I sigh. “She was loaded.”

“Since when is a girl too drunk for Ben Morris?”

“Dude.” I shoot a glare at Mason as we find a park bench in the shade to help ward off the September midday heat, drinks and lunch in hand. Jack had to cancel plans due to a client emergency. Apparently that happens a lot.

He holds his hands up. “Sorry. I know you wouldn’t do that.”

I watch him as he carefully unfolds and smooths three napkins over his lap and then surgically unravels some weird veggie-tofu-wrap shit, careful not to let so much as a shred of lettuce fall out. We’ve all teased Mason about his chick diet for years, but the guy’s so particular about things, he can’t even be shamed into a greasy burger. I kind of like that about him. “Are you going to eat that or marry it?”

“You saw her office, right?” he asks, ignoring me. “She’s a slob. Living with her is a fucking nightmare.” That’s two f-bombs dropped by Mason today. Swearing is another thing he doesn’t do, which tells me that either the idea of me screwing around with his stepsister or his stepsister in general really gets under his skin.

A flash of my trashed hotel room in the morning hits me and I smile to myself. “And yet she sure cleans up nice.” I get an eye roll in response. “Look, I know she’s your stepsister, but she’s fucking hot.” As much as I liked the “I don’t give a shit” wild-girl look she had going on in CancĂșn, this new look—with her pretty blond hair and her little dress and her boots—is a huge turn-on.

“And certifiable.” He fixes me with a look. “Seriously. Her nickname around the office is Rancor.”

Coke shoots out my mouth as I stifle a laugh. “Does she know?”

“I guess you missed the life-sized cardboard standee in her office? The day she heard Nelson from contracts slip and call her that within earshot, she rush-ordered it from some Star Wars website. She sets it up beside her door on the mornings when she’s extra annoyed.” He shakes his head at me as I explode in laughter.

For everything else about her that was a lie, I’m glad to see that biting sense of humor is genuine. I like a woman who can make me laugh. “If she’s so difficult, why would your father keep her there? I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m glad he has. I’m looking forward to working with her.”

“You won’t be for long,” he mutters.

And now for my review:
Review:

Ever since his guest appearance in Ten Tiny Breaths, Ben Morris has been the incredibly lovable man-whorish asshole that I just NEEDED to learn more about. He was the cocky yet protective guy with the perpetual smile on his face. He was the good time guy, and I couldn't wait to meet the woman who would finally bring him down. Who knew he would meet this woman on a drunken disaster of a night in Cancun!

Enter Reese. She's the girl with a wild side and a, fortunately, sealed Juvie record. When her husband of less than a year cheats on her with his ex, divorces her, then marries said ex, Reese gets a little creative with a lot of red paint and the ex's belongings. With no where to turn, she calls her Mother's lawyer ex-husband to help bail her out. What he gives her at the same time as her freedom, is the chance to start over as a paralegal at his law firm. Little does she know, Ben passed the bar and he's starting at the same firm.

The banter, sexual tension and pure vivacity of these characters is off the charts. I will admit I had very very high expectations of this book. This is the last of one of my favorite series ever. And once again, K.A. Tucker did not disappoint. All of the characters, from the main couple, to the friends, to the people you love to hate, all jump off the page to make you laugh, feel, and LOVE.

The story was a bit atypical in regards to the a rather common arc. There wasn't a big overblown/overdone climax of the "they can't be together any more until that big aha moment" variety. No, the story is about much more than that. It is about love and family and what it means to be there for someone else. That is not to say that there aren't very big moments in the novel, it's just that the story is so well rounded that it's not just about the couple's togetherness status. And that is an entirely refreshing change.

Don't worry if you haven't read the whole series, because each installment can very much be read as a standalone, but trust me...you won't want to stop with just one.

Five Ways to Fall was the deliciously sweet, refreshingly earnest, and satisfying conclusion to this amazing series. I'll be happily reaching for additional helpings again and again without tiring of it. Falling has never felt so good.
