My Thoughts:

“Life is one big risk, you just need to recognise which risks are worth taking.”

April Showers, the New Adult debut novel by Karli Perrin, offers up fun, quirky, and at times angst inducing read. It is the story of the hardworking university student, April Adams who finds herself caught in a love triangle between a passionate mysterious mystery man, Issac, and the steady, logical choice, Lukas. Each man, as it turns out, comes with his own pros, cons, and secrets. Will April’s heart and passions win out over her head? And once she makes her decision, will she stand by her choice?

“Love isn’t safe. Love is crazy and scary and unpredictable. You can’t control it and you sure as hell can’t fight it. It’s one of life’s greatest risks...but it’s also one of life’s greatest gifts.”

While I enjoyed each of the characters and their roles within the story, I do wish that I was able to get a better understanding of them. For example, I felt that I only really scratched the surface of April and who she was and her motivations. I found it a bit difficult to fully connect with her and her story.

A couple items that I’d like to note: I did not realize this book is not a stand alone and it DOES end in a bit of a cliffhanger. So, readers, please be prepared for this!

Also, it is set in the UK, so for the US readers, college = high school, university = college! Other than this, I think most of the “Britishisms” are quite understandable without confusion! =)

The Final Verdict:

Karli Perrin has written a delightful New Adult Contemporary that is full of fun, snark, a bit of mystery, and a healthy dose of sexy times. Though the ending and a bit of the pacing throughout leave you wanting more, this was an enjoyable debut novel. I look forward to seeing how Ms. Perrin continues April’s story.

Rating:

About the Author:
Karli Perrin is a 25 year old English Language & Linguistics graduate from Manchester. She has always been a big lover of books and is currently writing her first NA novel - April Showers.

She is a big believer of fate and is a sucker for a happy ending. She honestly believes that there is a reason why you are reading this right now (apart from the fact that you are awesome!)

Her ultimate goal in life is to live in a house made entirely out of books with her best friend, who also happens to be her fiancé.

...Hogwarts is plan B.

  1. I'd try to form a coherent comment, but that picture at the bottom has my brain fried.
