Ten Tiny Breaths
by K.A. Tucker

Just breathe, Kacey. Ten tiny breaths. Seize them. Feel them. Love them.

Four years ago, Kacey Cleary’s life imploded when her car was hit by a drunk driver, killing her parents, boyfriend, and best friend. Still haunted by memories of being trapped inside, listening to her mother take her last breath, Kacey wants to leave her past behind. Armed with two bus tickets, Kacey and her fifteen-year-old sister, Livie, escape Grand Rapids, Michigan, to start over in Miami. They’re struggling to make ends meet at first, but Kacey’s not worried. She can handle anything—anything but her mysterious neighbor in apartment 1D.

Trent Emerson has smoldering blue eyes and deep dimples, and perfectly skates that irresistible line between nice guy and bad boy. Hardened by her tragic past, Kacey is determined to keep everyone at a distance, but their mutual attraction is undeniable, and Trent is desperate to find a way into Kacey’s guarded heart—even if it means revealing an explosive secret that could shatter both their worlds.

My tear-stained love letter/review of Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker:

After seeing so many rave reviews and excitement over the debut New Adult novel by K.A. Tucker, I’m not sure why or how I resisted reading it for so long. Nevertheless, I felt it was time, and this weekend I succumbed, without regrets, and filled with a deep seated contentment that I have not felt from a book in a very long time.

Kacey has been broken for four years ever since tragedy befell her and her family. She has lost who she was and shields herself away from all connections...until she meets Trent. Trent is a gorgeous, wonderful male protagonist who seems to know just what Kacey needs and slowly begins breaking down her carefully constructed walls. But he has a past of his own that he’s hiding. Though I felt that I knew what was coming, nothing could prepare me for how the story unfolded and all the feelings that washed over wave after wave as it did.

"You hate me, don't you? You must hate me. I can't help it. I'm broken."

Trent squeezes me close to him. "I don't hate you. I could never hate you. Give me your heart, Kacey. I'll take everything that comes with it."

The Final Verdict:

Everything about this book is beautiful, from the cover art, to the flow of the author’s narrative voice, to each and every page from start to finish. It is a story of redemption and of finding yourself again when you thought you were permanently lost. Uniquely told and utterly compelling, I was hooked from page one. I loved every single person of this ensemble cast of characters.

Ten Tiny Breaths literally ripped my heart apart and put it back together again. I cried tears of sadness, of empathy, and of happiness. This book made me feel so so much, and I couldn’t have asked for more.
