Faking It
by Cora Carmack
Publication Date: June 4th, 2013 by William Morrow Paperbacks

Synopsis:
Mackenzie "Max" Miller has a problem. Her parents have arrived in town for a surprise visit, and if they see her dyed hair, tattoos, and piercings, they just might disown her. Even worse, they're expecting to meet a nice, wholesome boyfriend, not a guy named Mace who has a neck tattoo and plays in a band. All her lies are about to come crashing down around her, but then she meets Cade.

Cade moved to Philadelphia to act and to leave his problems behind in Texas. So far though, he's kept the problems and had very little opportunity to take the stage. When Max approaches him in a coffee shop with a crazy request to pretend to be her boyfriend, he agrees to play the part. But when Cade plays the role a little too well, they're forced to keep the ruse going. And the more they fake the relationship, the more real it begins to feel.

Before I get to my review, I just want to express how very very excited I was to get my hands on this book. Ever since reading Losing It, I had been dying, DYING, I say!!! to read Cade’s story. There was something about him that just had me latching on, knowing that there was so much more to him than I got to see from Bliss’s point of view.

It is safe to say, that I was pretty infatuated with him.

So, once I had the opportunity to grab up an ARC copy...I was pretty....well....this:

And then throughout the book until the end.....I was like this:

Okay...pull it together now....time to review this! BOOM!

My Thoughts:

Though it was never a question in my mind after reading Cora Carmack’s spectacular debut novel, Losing It, with her release of her follow up tale, Faking It, Cora has proven that she is not just a one hit wonder. Thankfully, folks, she is most definitely here to stay.

We first met Cade as the loveable nice guy who finishes last and loses the girl in Losing It. Faking it tells the his heavily anticipated story and his search for a happily ever after. Cade is nearly too good to be true, but that's the way he has built himself up. He is the actor who pretends to be perfect even when he feels anything but.

Max is tired of pretending to be the perfect daughter her parents want her to be. After the death of her sister all she wants is to live her life and make her music. She just doesn’t know how to stop.

After a chance meeting and a rash, split second proposition, Max finds herself with a pretend boyfriend in Cade. A pretend boyfriend who wins over her parents and, Max herself, if she can be honest with herself. But is she good enough for him?

“My name is Cade Winston - MFA student, volunteer, mom-hugger, and your boyfriend for the next twenty-four hours. It’s nice to meet you.”

Cade is not the picture perfect nice guy. Though he has decency and kindness embedded in his DNA, he is also sexy and oh, so passionate. He’s been burned too many times before and tries to learn when not to put his hand too close to the flames...but after meeting Max, he thinks that maybe this firecracker is worth the risk. That maybe, just this once, he’ll fight for what he wants instead of walking away.

"I’ll take my chances against your fickle heart if it means it’s mine.”

“You’re wrong. You couldn’t ruin me, because everything about you makes me better. You make me take chances and make bolder choices. You make me less concerned with being perfect and more concerned with being real. You make me want to be fearless.”

The Final Verdict:

Faking It surprised me, delighted me, made me laugh, made me cry, and just made me love and enjoy life and the fact that I was able to read SUCH an amazing book. Cora Carmack has written an intricately layered and unique novel with such a seeming ease and effortlessness that makes it obvious that she has found her true calling in life. A beautiful novel full of hope, redemption, and the journey to find oneself...
