*Spoiler-Free* REVIEW: Second Chance Boyfriend by Monica Murphy

Second Chance Boyfriend
by Monica Murphy
Publication Date: April 9th, 2013

Synopsis:
Lost. That one single word best describes my life at this very moment. I lost the last games of the season and both my team and my coach blame me. I lost the last two months because I drowned in my own despair like a complete loser. And I lost the only girl who ever mattered because I was afraid being with me would destroy her.

But now I realize how truly lost I am without her. She has become my story…and even though she acts like she’s moved on, I know she still thinks about me just as much as I think about her. She’s beautiful, sweet—and so damn vulnerable, all I want to do is help her. Be there for her. Love her…

If only I could convince Fable to give me a second chance. Then I wouldn’t feel so lost anymore, and neither would she. We could be found together.

Forever.

My Thoughts:

When I was accepted to participate in the blog tour for Monica Murphy’s Second Chance Boyfriend, I was beyond excited. After devouring One Week Girlfriend, I had been dying to learn what happened next in the heart wrenching tale of Drew and Fable.

Then once I received an ARC to review, well...I dropped everything:

The time had come...

The story starts off two months after One Week Girlfriend had left off. Drew has disappeared off the radar, damaged and in need of mending after the shocking revelations of the book one. Fable was left behind, alone, confused, and very frustrated with both Drew's abandonment and her own family issues to confront. Even though the first part of the book separates Drew and Fable, you can feel the aching void that they are each experiencing without the other.

It’s written so beautifully and so tangibly, that you can’t help but want to reach through the pages to tell them, “YOU BELONG TOGETHER. YOU NEED EACH OTHER. YOU MAKE EACH OTHER BETTER.”

Why, why, why...well, I’ll tell you why. Both Drew and Fable needed to confront and tackle their individual trials on their own before they could be ready to confront them together. And this is what I love. Drew and Fable are characters who have had horrible, life-altering, wouldn’t wish them on my worst enemy type things happen to them. YET, each of them has an inner strength, a sense of perseverance, and something so inherently good within them. This makes their tale one of hope, one of love, and something I felt so grateful to experience.

Without thought I sling my arms around him, anchoring myself. He’s big and warm and solid, and my heart eases at having him so close again. “I deserve you,” I whisper. “When will you realize that?”

So much happens in this novel and I was thoroughly captivated from start to finish. The husband experienced a lot of this:

The book ends beautifully, but I was left missing Drew and Fable. Fortunately Monica has been teasing that it may not be the end for them.....But hey, I’d read Drew and Fable: the senior citizen years.

Monica Murphy writes
Amazing stories, full of very
Real characters. Characters that are
So full of
HEART and
Most of all, characters that
Are able to find their hope and redemption thru a
Little bit of
LOVE.
One thing is for certain: I will NEVER STOP
Wanting more Drew + Fable tales....

“My mom was pretty dead on when she named me Fable, wasn’t she? I don’t feel real to anyone.”
“You’re real to me,” I whisper. So damn real, it hurts not to touch her.
I want her in my arms so bad it’s killing me.

The Final Verdict:

Second Chance Boyfriend was the perfect conclusion to the tale of Drew and Fable, (though I could always read more). Murphy has created beautiful and strong characters that make the reader believe in the redemptive qualities of love. So robust and full of “character”, they leapt off the page to be forever embedded in my imagination. Uniquely wonderful and incredibly exciting and emotional, this book is a winner in all respects.
