Just for the Summer
by Jenna Rutland

Dani Sullivan has come to Lake Bliss to write her latest cookbook and take a breather. After the year she’s had, she deserves a summer retreat to reevaluate priorities and make peace with past decisions. But from the moment single dad and sheriff Matt Reagan shows up, she has a hard time convincing herself that a life away from Lake Bliss could beat the life she might have here.

Recently divorced Matt is ready for a new relationship, but he doesn’t want short-term—his son needs permanence, and so does Matt’s heart. Unfortunately, it’s the smart-mouthed and sinfully sexy Ms. Sullivan who catches his eye. But when Matt learns Dani’s secrets, will he still want her to stay? Or will her chance for love last just for the summer?

My Thoughts:

Entangled: Bliss has struck gold once again with this touching tale.

Dani Sullivan gave her son up in a closed adoption eight years ago. Needing to see him to assure herself that he is safe and happy, she goes to Lake Bliss where she finds her son, Sam, under the care of the handsome, and divorced, Sheriff Matt Reagan.

Though she knows she must keep her distance, she is drawn to both son and father. As she becomes further and further intertwined with their lives, she knows that the truth must come out yet fears the outcome now that her heart has been put on the line.

“Looking for romance, Ms. Sullivan?”

She knew that voice. Matt Reagan. She took a few deep breaths to stay calm, but all she accomplished was to catch the scent of soap that clung to his skin. Her body came to life like a daffodil after a cold winter. Definitely not a good sign.

When she turned to face him, he backed up a few steps. He still wore his uniform. His sexy, sexy uniform. She stared at his tan shirt and wondered again what kind of muscles it hid. She was in the process of checking out his utility belt when he cleared his throat. Busted.

She redirected her attention upward. He lifted his eyebrows, and the amusement showed on his face. She held up the movies she clutched. “I’ll pass these on to you when I’m done. You could use a few pointers on how to treat a woman.”

“I’ve never had any complaints.” The rat actually chuckled.

The Final Verdict:

This novel was heartwarming to its core. I fell in love with Sam and Matt just as easily as Dani did. Dani’s story of her past tugged at my heart and though it could have easily consumed her, I loved how alive she was in spite of her past and how much more she came alive as her love grew for these two guys. A beautiful and endearing story, Just for the Summer left me content and, excuse the pun, blissful.
