*BLOG TOUR* RACING THE SUN by Karina Halle - Review + Giveaway!

Racing the Sun by Karina Halle
Genre: New Adult Contemporary
Publisher: Atria Books
Publication Date: July 28th, 2015

When I’m traveling, I feel like the secret to my life, to myself, to really becoming, is one step ahead. It’s in the next destination, the next town I get lost in, the next stranger I talk to. It’s always next but never here . . .

After six months of backpacking and soul-searching across the world, Amber MacLean is flat broke. There are worse places for a twentysomething to be stuck than the Amalfi Coast, but the only way she can earn enough money for a plane ticket home to California is to teach English to two of the brattiest children she has ever met.

It doesn’t help that the children are under the care of their brooding older brother, ex-motorcycle racer Desiderio Larosa. Darkly handsome and oh-so-mysterious, the young master of the crumbling villa tests Amber’s patience and will at every turn—not to mention her hormones.

When her position turns into a full-time nanny gig, Amber grows dangerously closer to the enigmatic recluse. But can she give up the certainty of home for someone whose closely guarded heart feels a world apart from her own?

Want a little tease? YES. Yes, you do!

Review:
I am a HUGE fan of Karina Halle's contemporary novels. When I think of them, the word that comes to mind is "Adventure" because that is exactly the type of journey she will take you on. Whether it is to the eastern most part of the world or the sultry Spanish countryside or the gorgeous Amalfi Coast, her books and her words have the ability to transplant you into somewhere brand new and make you wish you could pick right up and experience it in real life.

While the settings in Karina's novels infuse you with a sense of dreamy wanderlust, it is her characters that will ground you in their reality. The characters in Karina's novels are never simple, their stories never easy. They are complicated and messy, their love hard fought and eventually won. Racing the Sun is a shining example of this.

Amber is smart and lovable, strong and giving. Thrust into a challenging situation yet persevering in spite of the odds, she is a main character that I could really admire and be proud of. Derio is the sexy, sometimes grumpy older brother of Amber's new charges. He is a more complicated character that I, more often than not, love. Yet, like with most men, I felt the need, at times, to shake some sense into him. But, alas, the smoldering chemistry between them as they explore a slow burning relationship made it easy to overlook those minor moments.

Racing the Sun is a richly crafted novel that celebrates the complexity of human nature and of love. It is like a beautiful summer's day, warming you and your heart from the inside out. Highly recommended.
